The US Department of Justice has approved the $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance. However, a report by The Wall Street Journal suggests that career lawyers at the DOJ were leaning towards recommending a lawsuit to challenge the deal on antitrust grounds.
The decision to close the investigation and approve the deal reportedly surprised staff investigators, with some being denied the opportunity to object.
Senator Elizabeth Warren has commented on the report, stating that the decision "reeks of corruption" and calling for transparency on whether the merger was approved as a political favor.
