Netflix shows a “Are you still watching?” dialog after roughly three episodes or 90 minutes of continuous playback. The message appears whether you’re on a TV, phone, or tablet, and it asks you to confirm that you haven’t stepped away.
The streamer says the prompt serves two purposes: it protects your place in a series so you don’t lose progress, and it prevents unnecessary data consumption when the screen is idle. The feature dates back to early days of the service, when Netflix also faced criticism for throttling stream quality.
You can eliminate the pop‑up by disabling the autoplay function. On a web browser, open your account page, select your profile, go to Playback Settings under Preferences, and toggle off “Autoplay next episode.” Mobile users should tap the My Netflix tab, choose Manage Profiles, and turn off the same setting before saving.
With autoplay disabled, Netflix will no longer interrupt your binge with the check‑in, leaving you to stop playback manually if you need a break.
