The US is offering a $10 million reward for information on a Russian state cyber group that has compromised thousands of Signal and WhatsApp accounts.
The group, linked to Russian intelligence services, has been active since at least March, targeting investigative reporters and US government employees with phishing campaigns.
The attackers send messages masquerading as automated support communications, asking users to click a link or provide verification codes, which can lead to account takeover.
