Meredith Whittaker, Signal's president, emphasized that AI chatbots are not conscious beings and should not be trusted with sensitive information. In an interview with Bloomberg, Whittaker expressed her reservations about the privacy implications of chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude.
Whittaker argued that relying on AI tools like Microsoft Copilot for tasks such as Christmas shopping could grant them excessive access to personal data, including credit card information, browser history, and home addresses.

She warned that this level of access could constitute a backdoor, particularly in the context of secure communication platforms like Signal.
