Reddit has begun converting text posts into short videos using AI voices to read the content aloud. The experiment highlights posts and comments in a three-minute video format, with a toggle allowing users to switch between the original text and the AI-generated clip. Early examples include an eight-year-old r/boardgames thread adapted into a video reading responses to a road trip games question.
The rollout follows Reddit’s earnings call where CEO Steve Huffman mentioned plans to let users listen to posts in the background. The company frames this as part of a broader effort to modernize content consumption on the platform, though it acknowledges the videos may introduce issues like mispronunciations or inaccuracies. The experiment is currently live on the web and will expand to iOS and Android starting Tuesday.
