Meta's decision to relax its content rules on Facebook has led to a significant increase in racist comments and violent threats against lawmakers.
According to research by the Center for Countering Digital Hate, abusive and racist comments targeting politicians tripled in the six months after the new rules were implemented.
The study analyzed around 8 million Facebook comments and found that some categories of abusive comments saw even sharper rises, with violent threats and hate speech quadrupling during the same period. This surge in abusive content has raised concerns about the impact of Meta's relaxed rules on online discourse.
