Hundreds of Bethesda Game Studios and Zenimax Online Studios employees and their supporters braved near‑100°F heat to stage a lunchtime rally outside Zenimax’s Rockville headquarters, protesting recent Xbox layoffs.
The demonstration was one of five coordinated by Zenimax Workers United and its parent union, the Communication Workers of America, with parallel actions in Texas, California and Montreal. Demonstrators held signs reading “Layoffs… layoffs never change” and “Our players deserve better,” while speeches and songs rallied the crowd, underscoring concerns that cuts have gutted development and quality‑assurance teams.
Union representatives, including Bethesda technical producer and volunteer organizer Nathan Hahn, said the protest aims to halt a “perpetual cycle” of layoffs and push Xbox back toward contract bargaining. They emphasized building visibility for the movement and warned that continued cuts could further erode the studio’s capacity to deliver games, hoping the pressure will force Xbox to reconsider its staffing strategy.
