The VR46 MotoGP team announced that Fabio Di Giannantonio underwent a surgical dressing of the dermis on his left fifth finger at Rome’s UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital. The procedure, performed by Dr. Ornelli, follows the debris‑induced crash at the Catalan Grand Prix, where a wheel from Alex Marquez’s Gresini Ducati struck Di Giannantonio’s bike and forced him into a fall.
Despite the injury, Di Giannantonio finished fifth at Mugello and placed 12th in Hungary after a qualifying incident. He has been riding with a modified glove and has expressed caution about keeping his hands on the bike during crashes. The team’s statement says the recovery plan aims for a normal start at next week’s Czech Grand Prix, indicating confidence in his short‑term fitness.

Di Giannantonio remains Ducati’s top rider, sitting 42 points behind Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi after eight rounds. With a move to the factory KTM squad slated for the season’s end, his upcoming performance will be closely watched as he balances recovery with a potential team change.
