David Malukas was knocked from provisional pole at the end of qualifying by Chip Ganassi Racing's Alex Palou at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Palou achieved a two-lap average run of 174.353mph, surpassing Malukas's 173.244mph outing.
Despite missing out on his second career pole, Malukas will share the front row with Palou, the reigning and four-time IndyCar champion.
