Formula 1 drivers are raising concerns about the driving challenge at Spa-Francorchamps due to the 2026 regulations. The track's length and configuration are major factors, with the middle sector being a power-limited part of the track.
Drivers like Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen have expressed their concerns, with Alonso stating that the optimal deployment strategy would result in a one-minute sector with no deployment at all.
To mitigate the problem, the per-lap energy harvest limit in qualifying has been dropped from 8MJ to 7MJ, and there are five straight modes where drivers can deploy electrical power. Despite these changes, the fundamental problem of not enough energy to go around remains, and drivers will have to focus on energy management to perform well.
