Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will hold its first coalition meeting on the Freya ballistic missile defense system in France. The system, an analogue of the Patriot missile system, is designed to be more mass producible and cheaper.
The push for Freya comes after NATO allies pledged €70 billion in military aid for Ukraine this year. The U.S. also agreed to allow Ukraine to build its own Patriot interceptors.
Freya centers on the FP-7.X interceptor and is designed to hit ballistic targets at roughly 15 miles altitude. Ukraine is seeking European partners to support production, with Fire Point signing a memorandum with Germany's Hensoldt for radar technology and in talks with other companies for tracking and command-and-control systems.
