South Korea is set to significantly enhance its airborne electronic warfare capabilities with the acquisition of two Global 6500 jammer jets. The aircraft, to be modified by Korean Air, will provide a major boost to the country's sovereign electronic warfare capability.
The Global 6500 jets will be used as standoff jammer aircraft, designed to disrupt enemy electromagnetic signals from a safe distance. This capability is crucial in modern warfare, allowing friendly aircraft to penetrate defended airspace more safely.

The acquisition is part of South Korea's efforts to develop its own electronic warfare and airborne early warning and control capabilities, reducing its reliance on the United States. The country is also set to receive four new airborne early warning and control aircraft based on the Global 6500 airframe, as well as four Baekdu II intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft.
