The US Navy is still conducting carrier qualifications for a few of its fighter pilots in training, despite making significant changes to its naval aviation training landscape. E-2 pilots and foreign student pilots are among those who still need to undergo carrier qualifications.
The Navy is evaluating new ways to provide key carrier aviation training, including virtual training, as it plans to replace its T-45 fleet. The next jet trainer will not be required to perform carrier landing touch-and-go training.

The Navy's plans for carrier aviation training are part of its Undergraduate Jet Training System (UJTS) program, which aims to provide a comprehensive 'system of systems' for training student pilots. The program includes advanced simulators and virtualized training environments.
