A British commando team conducted a rare tandem jump rescue mission in May to reach a sick man on the remote island of Tristan da Cunha. The team of six commandos from the 16 Air Assault Brigade jumped from a cargo plane with two medical specialists attached to them in specially-made 2-person harnesses.
The tandem jump technique is a rare skill among elite troops, used on some of the most secret missions. The British team's jump was similar to those used by U.S. special operations forces, who have developed jumping rigs for cargo-carrying barrels.
The mission highlights the capabilities of special operations troops, who can conduct high-risk jumps to reach remote areas. The British team's jump was successful, and the medical specialists were able to treat the patient on the island.
