Soldiers assigned to the McGregor Range Complex in New Mexico are struggling to get meals due to long lines at the base's dining facility. The lines, which can last over an hour, have forced troops to buy meals at the base's exchange and food trucks.
The base's director of public affairs, Guy A. Volb, stated that the dining hall has a '100% feeding policy' and no soldier is turned away if they are in line before the facility closes. However, the lines have been a regular occurrence, with photos and videos posted online since March.
The issue highlights the problems service members face when they cannot use on-base dining facilities, as they have a portion of their pay withheld to cover the costs of operating chow halls. Junior enlisted soldiers who rely on base dining facilities for meals are particularly affected, as they have to pay out of pocket for alternative meals.
