Meta has named entrepreneur Kunal Shah as the new leader of WhatsApp, succeeding Will Cathcart. This move comes as Meta invests $900 million in Indian fintech giant CRED, where Shah will step down as CEO.
India is WhatsApp's largest market with over 500 million users, and the country is a key battleground for Meta's business messaging and digital payments ambitions.
Shah's experience building a consumer internet company in India is expected to help unlock WhatsApp's next phase of growth, particularly in areas such as payments and commerce.
The investment values CRED at $4.5 billion, and the startup will use the fresh capital to support growth across its payments, lending, insurance, and wealth businesses.
