Toni Schneider, the founding CEO of Automattic, has been leading Bluesky as interim CEO for four months. He is now dropping the 'interim' status and becoming its permanent chief executive. Schneider's first order of business is to create smaller spaces and more private communities, which he believes will unlock the next wave of growth and innovation.
Bluesky, originally spun off from Twitter, has struggled to retain or grow its user base lately. The site saw a sharp rise in users after Donald Trump's re-election but has since seen a drop off. Schneider will have his work cut out for him, but he seems game for the challenge.
Schneider's new role comes after Jay Graber, Bluesky's longtime CEO, stepped down to become its chief innovation officer in March. Schneider is confident about the company's future, saying 'we're at the very beginning of this story'
