SpaceX will sharply reduce Falcon 9 launches from Florida in 2024 as it prepares for Starship’s debut from the Space Coast. A senior company official confirmed the shift Tuesday, marking the end of Florida’s decade-long dominance as the world’s busiest spaceport.
The move comes after 165 Falcon 9 flights last year—roughly three per week—with 75% carrying Starlink satellites from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. SpaceX has already launched more missions this year from its West Coast base at Vandenberg Space Force Base, a trend expected to continue.
Starship’s first Florida launch remains targeted for late 2024, though 2027 appears more realistic. The pause in Florida launches will free crews and resources for Starship’s development and testing.
