Spanish startup Liux is entering Europe’s microcar market with a fully electric model designed around sustainability and affordability. The Liux Big, a compact vehicle built to park perpendicular to the curb, will launch in early 2025 after securing Europe-wide homologation. Production will begin at three Spanish facilities, including a plant in Azuqueca de Henares that follows Toyota’s lean management principles.
Liux prioritizes recyclability and longevity, using a linen-based biocomposite body and rechargeable batteries compatible with home solar setups. The company avoids rapid obsolescence cycles and aims to keep the Liux Big below €18,000 before subsidies. Over 7,500 people have joined its waiting list, with the typical prospective buyer aged 55 to 60 and likely considering the car as a household’s second vehicle.
The startup plans to partner with dealerships across Europe to sell the urban-focused Liux Big, using its showroom to highlight sustainable materials like linen textiles and linoleum flooring. A cargo variant is also in development, and Liux has raised €16 million to fund the launch.
