South Korea's military, nearly half a million strong, will undergo training to operate drones as easily as personal firearms. The goal is to make drones a universal combat tool for all troops.
The announcement, made by Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-back, coincides with plans to equip units with cheap and expendable drones for surveillance and strike missions.
The move is inspired by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, where drone technologies have played a significant role. South Korea aims to maintain a technological edge in its border standoff with North Korea.
