SoundCloud is rolling out a feature that lets fans purchase music directly from artists, ending the need to use third-party platforms like Bandcamp. The company plans to expand the tool beyond beta this fall after testing it with 200 US-based Artist Pro subscribers.
Fans will buy tracks through an artist’s profile page, with SoundCloud taking no sales cut—though artists will still handle processing fees and local taxes. Musicians can track sales via SoundCloud’s Artist Studio and Fan Support dashboards and choose which digital formats to offer.
The company frames the move as a response to growing demand for music ownership among younger listeners. It also arrives as Bandcamp faces uncertainty after major staff reductions by its parent company, Songtradr.
