Reed Jobs, son of Steve Jobs, is focused on curing cancer through his venture firm Yosemite. Founded in 2023, Yosemite has a team of 17 and targets $350 million for its second fund. The firm creates its own companies, using philanthropy to de-risk ideas, and has companies like Azalea and Quarry in its portfolio.
Jobs believes AI is changing healthcare delivery, particularly in clinical trials, where it can help build synthetic control arms and reduce patient recruitment costs. He also sees AI accelerating drug discovery by doing grunt work faster and finding new targets.
Yosemite is going after undruggable targets like p53, a tumor suppressor gene, with multiple companies and strategies. The firm has around 25 companies in its portfolio, with two failures due to scientific reasons.
