Pokémon Champions strips away the series’ traditional trappings to focus solely on competitive online battles, offering a free-to-play arena for players to test teams against rivals. Available on Switch, Switch 2, and mobile, the game replaces the usual catching and breeding with a daily roster refresh and stat-point allocation, letting players build and tweak teams in minutes rather than hours.
Stat points replace IVs and EVs, all Pokémon start at level 50, and held items can be bought with in-game currency. Microtransactions like a battle pass and starter packs provide convenience but aren’t required to compete. The system lowers the barrier to entry but reduces some skill expression, with speed ties decided by coin flips when stats are equal.

The game currently supports about a quarter of all Pokémon, with some legendaries overrepresented, but still offers deep customization. It runs at 60 fps on Switch 2 and 30 fps on mobile, where the faster load times make quick matches appealing. Players should watch for future updates that might expand battle formats beyond 3v3 singles and 4v4 doubles.
