Pixi has launched a messaging-native app on the App Store, allowing users to send AI-powered AR characters through iMessage. These characters come to life through the recipient's iPhone camera, reacting to their surroundings and interacting with people in real time.
The app combines AR with on-device AI, enabling characters to understand and behave accordingly. For example, a virtual cat reacts when a real dog walks past.
Pixi founder Mark Drummond says the app aims to bring a greater sense of presence and spontaneity to digital conversations, turning simple messages into shared experiences. The app will initially feature a robot, a cat, and an animated envelope character, with plans to expand to a marketplace where studios and creators can share their unique characters.
