Motorola and GrapheneOS will ship privacy-focused smartphones in 2027, marking the first non-Pixel devices fully supported by the security-hardened OS. The partnership, announced earlier this year, lacked specifics until now. The new Moto devices will ship without GrapheneOS preinstalled but will meet the project’s strict hardware standards for maximum protection.
GrapheneOS adds layers like memory safeguards, fine-grained network controls, and a duress wipe feature that deletes data under coercion. The software, based on Android, has drawn attention for its security-first approach after an activist used the duress code during a customs stop, leading to felony charges.
Pricing will reflect the premium positioning. GrapheneOS expects Moto’s flagship phones to cost more than Google’s Pixel lineup, which starts at $900 and tops out at $1,300 for the Pixel 11 Pro XL.
