Meta launched Pocket last Friday, August 21, after acquiring the team behind the defunct Gizmo app in March. The mobile app lets users create interactive games and apps by typing prompts into a text box, with no code exposure required. The results—called "gizmos"—can be shared in a TikTok-style feed complete with likes, comments, and reposts.
Pocket streamlines AI-assisted development by removing the need for terminals, CLIs, or IDEs. Users can prototype functional games quickly by chatting with an LLM, making the process accessible even to those with no coding experience. The app’s simplicity has drawn early users who enjoy the rapid iteration cycle.
The catch: all creations remain locked inside Meta’s platform. There’s no way to export or repurpose the AI-made games outside Pocket’s ecosystem, effectively trapping the work in a new walled garden.
