Meta showcased new features for its Edits video‑editing app at an invite‑only creator event in Los Angeles, announcing an AI assistant and a desktop version that will expand the previously mobile‑only tool. The AI assistant draws on a creator’s Instagram performance data—views, retention, demographic insights—to suggest video ideas, trending audio, and content strategies, reducing the need for external tools like ChatGPT. A Beta tab also rolls out today, giving early access to experimental features and more granular audience metrics such as demographic breakdowns and peak engagement times.
The upcoming desktop client will let creators edit on larger screens with finer control, while syncing work seamlessly between mobile and desktop devices. Meta says the addition positions Edits to better compete with rivals like CapCut, which already offers a desktop app. The company notes that videos produced in Edits achieve a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate than non‑Edits content, and that more than half of reels viewers encounter Edits‑created clips daily.
Edits remains free on iOS and Android. The AI assistant is currently being tested with event attendees, and the desktop version is slated to arrive soon, while the rest of the announced features launch to all users today.
