Nintendo rolled out a surprise free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch 2, adding eight-player split-screen local multiplayer and CameraPlay support. The update also shortens loading times and boosts visuals in docked mode, though it requires a 4K TV to take full advantage of the enhancements.
Players can use original Switch controllers alongside Switch 2 devices, and CameraPlay now works both locally and online via GameChat. The update arrives despite Nintendo’s ongoing support for the newer Mario Kart World, which launched with the Switch 2 last year.
The timing raises questions about Nintendo’s strategy, as many expected DLC plans for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe rather than further expansions to an older title.
