Lenovo has acknowledged reports that certain Legion Go handhelds can become unresponsive during a BIOS update, leaving devices bricked. The issue affects only the original Legion Go 8APU1 model that installed BIOS version V42 (N3CN42WW) directly from Lenovo’s website before the company pulled the update in early August. Lenovo removed V42 from its support site and says users who completed the update successfully do not need to take further action.
The company advises customers who encounter a blank screen during installation to hold the power button for 10 seconds, wait a minute, then power on again. If the device remains unresponsive, Lenovo directs users to contact support. A Lenovo forum moderator suggested repairs could be free under warranty or, for out-of-warranty devices, depending on local laws, though the company has not formally confirmed this policy.

Lenovo’s investigation remains ongoing. European teams reproduced the issue on three devices, while other teams did not replicate it, indicating the problem may stem from specific component batches or rare circumstances. The company continues validating future BIOS updates for the Legion Go.
