HoverAir’s Versa, a modular camera that transforms into a drone with snap-on wings, has stopped accepting US orders three days after its Indiegogo debut. The company now ships only the camera to US backers, citing unresolved logistics for the drone kit, which may be a euphemism for a federal ban.
The FCC’s database no longer lists the Versa, suggesting its authorization was revoked. Though the camera portion received FCC approval on August 9, the agency defines cameras as critical drone components, meaning the entire device is now restricted. US buyers can still order the camera alone, but the drone kit is unavailable and may never ship.
HoverAir has not commented on refunds, a recurring issue after its HoverAir Aqua failed certification last year. Backers report their orders cannot be shipped to US addresses, and the Indiegogo page hides drone kit options for US IP addresses. The company’s silence and the FCC’s refusal to comment leave the situation unresolved.
