Google has introduced Google Pics, an AI-powered image creation and editing tool designed to compete with Canva and Adobe Express. The product integrates with Google Workspace and will be available to premium Google AI subscribers and most Workspace customers over the next few weeks.
Powered by the Nano Banana image generation model, Google Pics lets users create posters, social media graphics, and other visuals by entering text prompts rather than building designs from scratch. The tool also includes object isolation, text modification, and collaborative editing features, along with the ability to generate multiple versions of an image for selection. Initially rolling out in Google Docs and Slides, the feature will later expand to Google Drive.
Unlike Canva’s marketplace model, Google Pics does not allow creators to publish and monetize templates. Instead, it focuses on rapid AI-driven creation, positioning itself as a productivity tool for everyday design tasks in professional and personal settings.
