Framework is replacing some out-of-warranty AMD mainboards after users reported that a BIOS update for the Framework Laptop 13 with Ryzen 7040-series processors permanently bricked their systems.
The update, BIOS 3.20 released in June 2026, added support for features like a haptic touchpad and new speakers while fixing a battery status reporting issue. Framework acknowledged the problem on its forum after multiple users experienced system failures post-update.
The company states it will replace the affected mainboards, even for devices outside warranty, though no details were provided on the number of units impacted or the replacement process.
Framework has not commented further on the root cause or a timeline for resolution beyond the replacement program.
