An advocacy group has accused the FCC of failing to comply with a public records request and concealing Chairman Brendan Carr's use of the Signal messaging service. The group, Frequency Forward, claims the FCC has acted in bad faith by withholding documents and redefining search criteria without notice.
The lawsuit, filed last year, alleges the FCC violated the Freedom of Information Act by wrongfully withholding agency records. A federal judge ordered the FCC to produce documents in August 2025, criticizing its initial response as 'vague and uninformative'.
The case centers on the influence of DOGE and Elon Musk on the FCC, with the advocacy group seeking transparency on Chairman Carr's communications.
