Europe is experiencing its second major heat wave of the year, with record-breaking temperatures.
France recorded its hottest day ever, with temperatures over 44 degrees Celsius, resulting in around 40 drowning deaths and thousands losing electricity. The UK also saw high temperatures, with schools closing and train delays.
The heat wave has prompted warnings from the UK, Switzerland, and Spain, with the UK meteorological service issuing a red alert. Emma Howard Boyd, chair of the National Heat Risk Commission, highlighted the need for improved heat resilience, particularly in homes without air conditioning.
