Europe is pushing back against the US chip war. Dutch Trade Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma met with US officials to oppose the MATCH Act, a bill that would restrict Chinese chipmakers' access to Western semiconductor equipment. This would particularly affect ASML, a Dutch company and the world's only maker of sophisticated lithography machines used for cutting-edge AI chips.
The MATCH Act would extend existing controls, banning the sale of ASML's deep ultraviolet immersion machines to China. ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet previously stated that China can currently only buy older-generation tools, which the MATCH Act would also restrict.

The bill's fate is uncertain, as it has not yet faced a full House or Senate vote and may need to be included in a larger package to pass.
