Barret Zoph, OpenAI's head of enterprise AI sales, has left the company after just five months. He rejoined OpenAI in January after a stint as co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab, a competing AI company founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.
Zoph's departure comes as OpenAI focuses on key revenue drivers like enterprise and coding ahead of its planned IPO. His role was significant, as the company had vowed to stop chasing 'side quests' and concentrate on its core business.
OpenAI confirmed Zoph's departure, and he posted a goodbye message in the company's Slack channels. This is Zoph's second departure from OpenAI, having originally left in the fall of 2024 for Thinking Machines Lab.
