Anthropic is updating its privacy policy to require users to verify their age and identity by uploading government-issued documents in certain circumstances. This move is intended to allow users to appeal account flags for potentially fraudulent activity. The company will collect a photo scan of a passport or driver's license, a selfie, and a face geometry template.
The change applies to a small subset of users whose accounts are flagged but not banned. Anthropic says this update is unrelated to the rollout of its Fable or Mythos products.
The move may be an attempt to comply with ongoing legal challenges and regulatory pressures, including a standoff with the Trump administration over access to Anthropic's AI tools.
