Anthropic has agreed to rent $45 billion in AI compute from Nscale, a British infrastructure startup founded in 2024. The six-year deal will deliver compute capacity from Nscale’s West Virginia data center via Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chip system, a cutting-edge design combining six chips in unison. Anthropic expects the capacity to begin powering its services in late 2027.
The agreement is the latest in Anthropic’s aggressive push to expand compute resources, following a string of high-value partnerships. In September, the company secured a $10 billion deal with Volta for six years of cloud compute in Norway, while a May deal with SpaceX provides $1.25 billion worth of capacity monthly from two data centers. Earlier this year, Anthropic also added 5 gigawatts of compute from Amazon and expanded relationships with Google and Broadcom.
The race for AI compute dominance continues among major players, with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta all rapidly scaling their infrastructure to stay competitive.
