Amazon's security research reportedly triggered the White House's decision to ban Anthropic's Fable. CEO Andy Jassy spoke with officials about security concerns shortly before the export control directive.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon's research found that Fable 5 could be prompted to serve up information useful in cyberattacks.
The ban has complicated Anthropic's operations, as many of its researchers are foreign-born and can no longer access the product. Anthropic has disputed the government's characterization of the issue, arguing that the vulnerabilities could be discovered using other publicly available models.
