Johann Zarco will return to MotoGP at this weekend’s Aragon Grand Prix, marking a faster-than-expected recovery from a serious knee injury. The LCR Honda rider suffered ligament damage to his left knee in May during a multi-rider crash at Catalunya, which also involved Pecco Bagnaia and Luca Marini. Doctors initially considered surgery but later determined it was unnecessary, allowing Zarco to resume training sooner than anticipated.
Zarco called the timing "perfect," noting he didn’t expect to be back in competition so soon. He has spent the interim rebuilding fitness on both supermoto and his Honda CBR, which shares the same riding position as his MotoGP bike. A successful medical check on Thursday is still required for clearance, with Cal Crutchlow on standby as a replacement.
Should he race, Zarco faces a double long-lap penalty for his role in the Catalunya incident. The Frenchman, who won last year’s Le Mans race, admitted he’s eager to feel the adrenaline rush of racing again at speeds over 300 km/h.
