Toto Wolff used a traditional Zandvoort media roundtable to tease Max Verstappen’s future, joking that Mercedes still has the Dutch driver for the “real hero races.”
The annual session with Dutch journalists at the Dutch Grand Prix has become a platform for Wolff to drop lighthearted remarks, often with inside-team humor. Two years ago, he similarly hinted at Kimi Antonelli’s upcoming F1 debut before it was officially confirmed.
Verstappen’s recent contract extension with Red Bull keeps him in F1 beyond 2028, but Wolff’s quip suggests Mercedes remains focused on the long game, even as the team eyes its own next steps in the sport.
