George Russell has expressed concerns about his ability to fight for the Formula 1 championship due to his struggles with the 2026 tyres. Despite taking a second-place finish at the British Grand Prix, Russell feels he didn't deserve the result and is troubled by his performance.
The main issue for Russell is the lack of grip from the new tyres, which tend to need higher pressures to support the loads, resulting in less potential grip. This has affected his ability to fully commit in his braking and corner entries, a key strength of his in previous seasons.
Russell's difficulties are further complicated by the 2026 power unit regulations, particularly at energy-starved tracks like Silverstone. His teammate, Kimi Antonelli, has been consistently outperforming him, and Russell needs to understand and address his tyre issues to bounce back from this setback.
