Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies has admitted that the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was a 'reality check' for the team. Neither Max Verstappen nor Isack Hadjar were able to challenge the leaders, with Verstappen finishing 40 seconds behind race winner Lewis Hamilton.
Mekies suggested that the team knew they would struggle in Barcelona due to the circuit's high-speed layout. He noted that the team has made progress but still needs to work harder to close the gap to Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren.

Red Bull also struggled with bad starts, an issue that has plagued the team throughout the season. Mekies acknowledged this as an area of focus, stating that the team has a lot to learn and improve on, particularly in their first year as power unit manufacturers.
