Pato O'Ward qualified 10th for the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America, a significant drop from his pace-setting time in second practice.
The 27-year-old Mexican, who sits fifth in the IndyCar Series championship standings, clocked a flying lap of 1m,44.4003s around the 4.014-mile road course.
O'Ward was left searching for answers, baffled by the performance of his tires, which seemed to hinder his qualifying run. His practice pace had suggested a stronger qualifying performance, but he ultimately fell short.
