Franco Morbidelli, fresh from a surprise third‑place on a rain‑shortened sprint at Jerez, told reporters he remains a racer with a job to complete in MotoGP. "I love racing and I haven't finished my task here," he said during the Balaton Park weekend, adding that his focus has shifted from championship ambitions to simply winning races again.
The Italian rider broke a three‑year podium drought earlier in the season with two VR46 rostrums, yet his dry‑race results have stalled at seventh place, leaving him 14th and the lowest‑ranked Ducati rider in the standings. With teammate Fabio di Giannantonio set to move to KTM, Morbidelli's seat is reportedly threatened by a possible VR46 lineup featuring Fermin Aldeguer and Nicolo Bulega. Other race winners such as Alex Rins, Brad Binder and Jack Miller also face uncertainty as the series transitions to 850 cc machines.
If a MotoGP contract does not materialise, Morbidelli hinted that a switch to World Superbike could be an option, especially now that SBK runs on Michelin tyres. For now, he insists his priority is to get back to winning races before dreaming of a title.
