KTM’s MotoGP riders could regain 500rpm at the Misano round after resolving an unspecified engine reliability issue that forced a performance reduction. The change would restore acceleration and cornering performance beyond just top speed, according to test rider Pol Espargaro.
Espargaro explained that the rpm boost would help in lower gears and mid-corner exits, not just straight-line speed. He called the potential return “critical” for Misano, a track where grip and acceleration are decisive. KTM’s RC16s showed no reliability problems at Aragon, but still lagged behind their usual performance.
The rpm cut was introduced after a failure at Catalunya, leaving KTM’s riders without seven rounds of full engine use. Brad Binder leads the field in top speed but has already used six of his nine permitted engines this season, putting him at higher risk of penalties.
