Ferrari’s 2026 Formula 1 challenger, the SF-26, debuted two experimental features during Bahrain’s winter testing in February. On the first day, the car ran a new vane mounted behind the exhaust pipe, internally labeled FTM. The next day, it introduced a rear wing that could rotate 180 degrees between cornering and straight-line modes, earning the nickname “swing wing.”
Team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed the team deliberately pushed riskier aerodynamic concepts to gather early data. The rotating wing and exhaust vane were part of a broader strategy to test unconventional solutions ahead of the 2026 regulation changes.
The SF-26’s aggressive testing phase signals Ferrari’s intent to innovate despite the uncertainty of next season’s technical rules.
