Bob Barnard, the architect behind the Phillip Island MotoGP circuit and the original Adelaide Formula 1 street layout, has published an open letter condemning the plan to shift the Australian MotoGP round to a new street circuit in Adelaide from 2027.
Barnard warns that the departure of MotoGP, followed by WorldSBK in 2028, could leave Phillip Island vulnerable to redevelopment, citing rumors that owner Lindsay Fox may convert the venue into a golf course. He also argues that the proposed Adelaide track is not the celebrated F1 street circuit nor a suitable replacement for the world‑class motorcycle layout, and that both tracks risk being lost.

The designer calls for the full Adelaide circuit design, its environmental footprint, and a transparent financial case to be released before any irreversible action. He urges the motorsport community and South Australian residents to oppose sacrificing two heritage assets for an unproven replacement.
