The US Marine Corps has awarded a $20 million production contract to Overland AI for fully autonomous ground vehicles. These vehicles will transport air defense systems deeper into combat zones with less human oversight.
The contract marks a milestone in the Marine Corps' pursuit of ground-based air defense against hostile drones and low-flying enemy aircraft. Overland AI's autonomy stack already powers various military vehicles, including those used by the Army and DARPA.
The company's CEO, Byron Boots, stated that the technology is mature and in high demand from US operational units. The vehicles are expected to be delivered in about nine months, with plans to integrate them into the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) for resupply and ISR capabilities.
