The US Air Force is seeking a new air-to-air missile with a range of at least 1,000 nautical miles, roughly 10 times the reach of the current AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile. This new missile, dubbed the Air Force Long Range Weapon (AFLRW), would be capable of engaging critical airborne early warning and control planes, as well as tankers and other high-value aerial assets. The Air Force is set to hold a classified meeting with defense contractors to share its requirements for the AFLRW, which would have a threshold minimum range of 1,000 nautical miles and be capable of striking targets in a responsive manner.
